I once saw a birthday card that joked, “you know you are getting old when you have to line outside your lips to see them.” As funny as this may be, unfortunately there is some truth to the notion that lips change with age. As with many other body parts, thick, full, smooth, soft lips can be a thing of the past, unless cared for properly. Lips are basically skin. But, they are transition skin between the nonmoist skin of the face and the moist skin of the mouth. For this reason, their ability to withstand environmental insults is less than other body areas.

Rinsing the shampoo, she applies a good amount of hair conditioner and lets it penetrate while she pops the top on the shaving cream and shaves her legs. The shower finished, she towel dries, sprays the scented antiperspirant on, brushes her teeth, then rinses and gargles with mouthwash. She combs setting gel through her hair then blows it dry and spritzes with hairspray. She rubs in an even coat of body lotion and a dusting of powder over her skin. Sitting at her vanity, she carefully applies a thin film of moisturizer over her face to reduce the fine lines. A dab of lipstick, a poof of perfume and a little sunscreen on her arms and she is set for the day. She looks radiant and healthy but her looks are killing her.
